PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Greetings to all! Although I knew it was coming, it was still a shock to feel “crunch-crunch” as I stepped outside on this frosty morning. This, of course means many things, but for our charity, Children at Risk, it marks the transition from summer and summer functions to winter and winter functions like: Christmas, hockey season and of course winter fundraising events!
So far we have held our Fall Raffle, started our 50/50 sales at the Sens and 67‟s – as well as completed our annual Celebrity-Carved Pumpkin Contest! It was wonderful to once again have the support of many businesses, personalities and volunteers to make this year‟s Pumpkin event another great success. December brings Santa photos at Westgate Shopping Centre, more Sens 50/50 and some events and activities being held for CAR‟s benefit like Coffee Sales, Chordettes Christmas Auction and Good2Go Pub Fundraiser.
Additionally, we are also working on next year - through the endless work and efforts of our Executive Director, Brenda and our Office Administrator Bambina, Children at Risk is thrilled to be once again a chosen charity at the H.O.P.E Beach Volleyball Tournament in July 2012. This event provides major exposure for Children at Risk not only regionally but nationally. This event requires a commitment of many Volunteers and we hope many of you can make it! Contact our offices for more details on how you can help.
The purpose of Children at Risk is ultimately to improve the quality of life for children with Autism and their families – to look for those “gaps” in community services and to increase awareness by the public and governments of the issues associated with Autism.
What we are working to achieve:
Connect people and programs
Become a clearinghouse of information on Autism
Be of service to those working on the front lines of children with Autism
Make Autism a national priority
Work to inform and influence public policy
For whom:
Children with Autism and their families
Teachers/Therapists/Guidance counsellors
Anyone else affected directly or indirectly by Autism
It is mainly through fundraising events like H.O.P.E.,
the Pumpkins, Rockin‟ for Risk, 50/50 tickets sales at
hockey games, Santa Photos, raffles tickets sales and
more that we are able to provide the much needed
services to our community.
I would like to personally thank groups like the
Capital Chordettes Ladies Barbershop Chorus for their
many years of support of Children at Risk. Their
musical talents are truly amazing. Come and see them
at their Christmas Craft Sales and Auction on
Saturday, December 3 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at
Lakeside Gardens. Contact our office for more details
– and continue to turn the pages of this newsletter for
more fun and exciting opportunities to support Autism
through Children at Risk!
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous
New Year!
Paul Lacroix,
Board President
