Ottawa Run For Palestine 2018 Poster

Greetings!

Last year Children at Risk was thrilled to be chosen as the 2017 Charity for Support by the Inner Wheel Club of Ottawa – with $11,000 raised for our Programs and Services! In addition – this dedicated group of Ladies not only bought Raffle tickets and attended the Autism Brunch in November – they continued to recognize our on-going needs and raised an additional $2,000 in 2018 for CAR!!

One of the Inner Wheel Members, Rula Sharida, convinced her husband Dr. Habib Khoury from the Centrum Dental Centre to offer even more support to Children at Risk by being part of the 2018 Ottawa Run for Palestine. This will be the 3rd year that this Fundraiser has included a local Charity – with Funds raised in 2017 for CHEO's youth mental health program. Children at Risk does not look at the race, colour, creed or nationality of the children and Families we support – just the disability of Autism…we receive NO direct Government funding and ALL Services are financed through Fundraising, Grants and Donations….so funding like this is critical to our ability to offer ANY Supports.

Funds raised for Palestine will be distributed through the United Nations Relief & Works Agency (UNRWA) that was established in 1949 – specifically for their Community Mental Health Program (CMHP). Ongoing challenges since 2012 has led to a doubling of reported cases of Psychological Trauma in Gaza. Nearly half of those cases are children under the age of nine. Since the start of the CMHP in 2002, UNRWA has seen greater academic focus and confidence in children who have received support.

What can you do to Help?

  1. Register for the Walk/Run - Here is the link:
  2. Volunteer – there are needs for volunteers for different areas: kids activities, food, road closure, registration
  3. Donate–you can donate directly on the Link–this Donation does not produce income tax receipts but one can be done by CAR with documentation
