What web site is complete without a list of interesting links.
The following are some of our favorite sites with a brief description
of what you will find. If you have any suggestions for recommended
autism related sights, please just send us an E-mail at car@childrenatrisk.ca
Site: Autism Society Ontario – Ottawa Chapter www.autismottawa.com
Link: http://www.autismottawa.com
We are an independent, non-profit organization committed
to improving the quality of life for people and families living with
autism and related disorders. Our membership is composed primarily
of parents in the Ottawa-Carleton region and interested individuals
and professionals who deal with autism and related disorders.
Site: Center for the Study of Autism
Link: http://www.autism.org/
This site has an autism overview section that is available in
5 different languages. There are sections on related disorders,
issues, interventions, as well some articles by Temple Grandin.
Site: Autism Research Institute
Link: http://www.autism.com/ari/
The Autism Research Institute (ARI) is the hub of a worldwide
network of parents and professionals concerned with autism. The
only organization of its kind, ARI was founded in 1967 to conduct
and foster scientific research designed to improve the methods of
diagnosing, treating, and preventing autism. ARI also disseminates
research findings to parents and others worldwide seeking help.
The ARI data bank, the world's largest, contains nearly 25,000 detailed
case histories of autistic children from over 60 countries. The
ARI started "DAN - Defeat Autism Now!" in 1995 with the intent to
get as many people as possible interest in autism.
Site: I.N.D.I.E.
Link: http://www.indie.ca/
The name INDIE stands for "The Integrated Network of Disability
information and Education". It's a good Canadian site (fully bi-lingual
too!) that covers issues like adaptive technology, transportation,
and employment to name a few. Although this covers all types of
disabilities it does have many references specific to autism. RECOMMENDED
Site: Autism-PDD Resources Network
Link: http://www.autism-pdd.net/
Primarily an american site, it has lots of general info and is
very well designed. (Sometimes it is a little slow to load)
Site: Options to Meet the Challenge of Autism
Link: http://www.autism-society.org/site/PageServer
The Autism Society site is always a good site to visit if you
are interested in the various treatments used for autism/PDD. The
actual description of the treatment is very short but there is some
excellent info on how to evaluate the different treatments.
Site: Therapeutic Communication Through Music
Link: https://www.zzounds.com/edu--musicautism
Music therapy to help with a variety of disablities and disorders, including autism.
